Sibenik is a town in the central part of the Adriatic with about 50,000 inhabitants, situated at the delta of the river Krka, in a beautiful bay. The city was first mentioned in 1066, and the main symbol of the city is the Cathedral in Sibenik from the 13th century. As a historical city, Sibenik, besides the Cathedral of St. James, offers to visitors a multitude of cultural monuments, such as walls, towers, city gates, and particularly attractive are four city fortresses: fortress St. Nicholas from the 16th century, built to defend the city against the Turks, the fortress St. Ivana from the 17th century built in the city center, Subicevac fortress and St. Michael’s fortress built in the 16th century on a hill above the old town.
In the city has been maintained for many years a well-known international children's festival and the medieval fair, which revives the tradition of the Renaissance. Good fun during the summer and winter evenings offer the Evenings of Dalmatian chanson and many other cultural and entertainment events.
Near the city of Sibenik are the famous national parks Krka and Kornati, which are visited by many tourists. Sibenik archipelago also offers to all nature fans unforgettable moments, as also the entire surrounding area of that historic city.
